"Intensive digital security for Schoolchildren" was held at Lviv University

As part of the international month of cyber security, on October 27, the already traditional online event "Digital Security Intensive for Schoolchildren" was held at Lviv University. It was organized by the Marketing and Development center of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Cyber Police, the Lviv Regional Military Administration, the Lviv IT Cluster, the public organization "Laboratory of Ideas", IT companies SoftServe and GlobalLogic.

The main goal of this project is to tell teenagers about the problems related to cyberattacks: how to detect, prevent and protect yourself from cybercriminals. At the same time, explaining what "information hygiene" is and why a "hacker" is not always a bad thing. In total, more than 160 schoolchildren volunteered to attend the cyber intensive.

During the opening of the event, the Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Informatization of Lviv University Vitaliy Kuharskyi congratulated those present and emphasized that the topic of digital security is extremely important, especially today, in the time of full-scale war, when the issue of cyber security and information security is one of the critical points and needs our attention "It is extremely gratifying that the interest in digital literacy among students is very high. This shows that the young generation is conscious, progressive and ready to learn. Therefore, I am convinced that this cyber intensive will help schoolchildren to understand the basic knowledge in the field of digital security and strengthen their ability to detect, prevent and protect information systems, and, themselves and their neighbours from attackers. After all, during our event, participants will be treated to cool and informative lectures and workshops by cyber security experts," added Vitaly Mykhailovych.

The speakers of this intensive are researchers, developers and qualified specialists who work in the direction of digital security. They told schoolchildren about the problems related to digital attacks and also shared their knowledge and experience in this direction. In particular, the participants listened to a creative lecture "Cybersecurity and the need of the 21st century", which was prepared by a certified information systems auditor (CISA); GlobalLogic consultant - Maryna Lyakhova; SoftServe specialist Mykhailo Kropyva prepared a report on cyber hygiene in the information space; and SoftServe specialist Roman Karpiuk spoke about the safe and not-so-safe Internet.

In addition to such creative classes from specialists of leading IT companies, our participants also met with the senior inspector of the 1st sector of the Cybercrime Countermeasures Department in the Lviv region of the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine, police Captain Valeria Ivkova and the representative of the Lviv IT Cluster Oleg Leskivy. All meetings were dynamic and rich, where teenagers were able to delve into the topics of cyberattacks, cybercrime, hacking, cyber hygiene in conditions of war and analysis of Russian cyberweapons in more detail.

It is worth adding that the event also had a career orientation goal. After all, Cybersecurity is one of the popular specialities among entrants. Therefore, as part of our intensive, schoolchildren had a great opportunity to get acquainted with the educational program 125 "Cybersecurity and information protection", which was presented by the head of the "Cybersecurity" department of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics of Lviv University, Petro Vengerskyi.

The "Digital Security Intensive for Schoolchildren" ended with a raffle of souvenir products from the IT company GlobalLogic.
